Kalkhoff Electric Bicycle ReviewThe Kalkhoff electric bicycle is produced in Bremen, Germany. With the colaboration of German workmanship and Japanese technology, Kalkhoff truly has the perfect combination.
Kalkhoff Pro Connect Electric Bike Review The Pro Connect is my favourite electric bicycle to date. This Kalkhoff electric bicycle has everything you need for commuting in an enjoyable and stress free way, the Panasonic system from Japan is great and trustworthy, the ride feels fast, the brakes are spot on, and the Kalkhoff bike itself is good. The Panasonic system consists of a crank motor and the very good 260Wh battery that comes with a 2 year warranty. The battery is also quite light at 2.4kg, while the entire Kalkhoff electric bike weighs in at a light 20.8kg. What is good about the light weight of this Kalkhoff electric bicycle is that if you cycle without the power assistance, it is still a pretty decent ride. Now that has been quite rare with electric bikes in past. One contributing factor of this light weight is that there's no suspension posts, something many of you will be glad to hear. But it isn't just the light weight that contributes to the enjoyment, the Nexus 8 speed hub gear works close to perfect and is very good at getting you up those very demanding hills. And when you come flying down the other side of the hill you will find that the rolling resistance is good, as are the brakes which is a Shimano Deore XT M770 V-Brake (this is obviously important for a machine that can get very fast downhill). The Pro Connect electric bike offers 3 different power settings, eco, medium, and high. The eco setting is really quite weak in terms of power, but is good if you're running low on power and you have a fair distance left. It makes you feel like there's a nice tailwind behind you. The medium setting is much more powerful and enjoyable, while the high mode is super for getting up hills and getting away from traffic at lights. On my travel I used all different power settings on quite a hilly route and achieved 36 miles. In saying that I am quite fit and did do a lot of the cycling in the low to medium power mode. The best range you will be able to manage on this Kalkhoff electric bicycle is around 50 miles. When you do run out of power, charging should take around 5 hours. Taking some of this power will be the lights as the lighting current is supplied by the battery. This is a regular accessory for an electric bicycle, but what is suprising is that the lights are actually quite good. Mudguards are also supplied. I really am struggling to think of any reason not to buy one of these unless they are outside your price range. In saying that, I really think they are well worth the investment. Who needs a car for 30 odd mile journeys? Not when you have one of these, that's for sure. I will also mention that the Kalkhoff electric bikes come in a variety of sizes for male and female styles that will be perfect for anyone between 5'1 and 6'3.
Kalkhoff Aggatu Electric Bike Review The Aggatu electric bicycle is a liitle cheaper than the Pro Connect but is still fantastic. The Aggatu only lowers itself in quality by a small measure.
The major difference between the two is the weight difference as the Aggatu comes in at 25.8kg instead of the Pro Connects' 20.8kg. One reason for this and many of you may see this as a positive, is that the Aggatu has suspension forks (which are very good) while the Pro Connect does not. The weight of the Aggatu is increased by all these accessories that are offered by Kalkhoff, including a rack, good lights, a lock, a pump, mudguards, and the ladies version has a skirt guard. The Pro Connect does also offer these accessories. So if it isn't the extras that vary the weight, what is it? The answer comes down to quality. It is the likes of lighter and better pedals on the Pro Connect, a better seatpost, improved brakes, better tyres, and Shimano rims instead of Freeway Holkhammer rims (Shimano being the better and lighter). Even with these changes, the two Kalkhoff electric bikes are very much the same breed. They both use the fantastic Panasonic system, they also share the eco, normal, and high power assistance options, they are both pedelecs (power assistance), they take up the same charge time, they both offer the same size options, and they are both great electric bicycles that are very enjoyable.
Kalkhoff Electric Bicycle Overview Both the Kalkhoff Pro Connect and the Kalkhoff Agattu are very good electric bicycles, and if you can buy one of these I would advise it as they are a great experience.
