Your Rear Electric Bicycle Hub Guide

A rear electric bicycle hub can be a confusing subject, but that just makes our electric bike answers more interesting. And that has to be good!

Firstly we will let you in on what we think, and many we know think, are the best electric bike hubs!

Heinzmann

The first is Heinzmann. They don't mess around, they have been making motors for many years. Heinzmann motors are completely reliable, plus they work perfectly well in the rain.

The downside is that they can be quite heavy. The heavier the wheel, the more difficult it is to handle in bumpy terrain. A heavier hub also makes the bike heavier to carry.

It's the perfect option if you're travelling on roads and don't need to carry it about.

Bionx

Bionx is another quality motor. Again completely reliable, but without the heavy weight. In terms of technology, these guys are way out there. Really, really cool machine.

It may be better to buy a pre-built electric bike. We would advise you only to buy a motor kit if you have a top quality bike that you don't want to stop using. Otherwise, buy the whole package!

Rear Electric Bicycle Hub or New Electric Bicycle?

Electric bike manufacturers are doing the whole deal at much better prices than they were in the past, making this the best option for most.

Let the pro's do the dirty work. Although kits are easy to install, they will likely not be as good a ride as a pre-built electric bicycle.

If you buy a new electric bicycle: it will likely look better, ride better, feel better, and without any hastle of building; if you don't like that kind of thing.

If you're confident enough, and are sure you want an electric bike hub kit and rear electric bicycle hub, then sure thing, go for it! If you have someone who can help you overcome any technical problems, then that would be better.

If you are still a little unsure, a little sweat under the collar, then look at these pro's and con's.

Rear Electric Bicycle Hub Cons

Rear Electric Bicycle Hub Cons

  • Look neat. Probably better looking than having the hub at the front.
  • They are more comfortable as they have a lower unsprung weight.
