Sparta Ion Electric Bike Review

by Shaun Hartely
(Wales, UK)

The Sparta Ion electric bike is the best value electric bike in my opinion, here's why...

The Sparta Ion electric bike is a pedal assist which I have to admit took a bit if getting used to, but after a week or so, it became much easier and is very clever. However, I would have still liked a throttle.

The Sparta Ion bike weight is around 28 kg which is reasonably light for an electric bike I believe. Despite being considerably heavier than a regular bicycle, it is also easy enough to pedal without any electrical-aid, and when you do switch on the power the 28 kg weight of the Sparta disappears and becomes super fun and enjoyable. The command console is very easy to work and very clear; indicating kph, distance and power remaining.

My favourite part of the bike that I think makes it great is the 24V 10Ah Nickel Metal Hydride battery that's built into the frame so you cannot see it at all, plus it's waterproof! The motor is also very discrete and waterproof.

I travel just under 15 miles every day, to and from my work in the city centre. I give the battery a 2 to 3 hour charge at night, and have had no range problems. I believe you can get a "range extendor" that allows you to travel up to 32 miles. This is great to know that I have this available, incase I change job or something and need to travel further.

Because the Sparta Ion bicycle is very smooth and enjoyable, I'm not sweating when I get to work, and not to mention I get there just before I used to with my car (which I hardly use any more).

Overall, the Sparta Ion is an incredibly well built machine and bike, that offers true value for money at £1,400.

I could not advise it more as a true value for money electric bike.

I have also heard that it was awarded bicycle of the year in '04.
