Giant Twist Electric Bicycle Review

The new Giant Twist electric bicycle is actually 6 bikes in total.

With the greatest of honesty, Giant electric bicycles are only on this list due to popular demand. A population desperate to know if Giant have actually cracked it at last. twist electric bicycle

To the right is the control switch. It allows you to choose the level of power assistance; Sport, Normal or Eco (Economy).

To answer this cry for answers, it is best to inform you that there is both bad and good news on the new Twist electric bicycle series.

The good news is that yes, Giant have improved and their new bikes are of good standard... reliable, reasonably good looks, and a superb range.

twist electric bicycles However, Giant have seemed to get a bit ahead of themselves on this 'superb range'. They claim their two batteries can acheive ranges of around 80 miles on a charge. Mabye in the absolute most perfect of conditions this could be the case, but in the reality of things, with stopping and starting, hill climbing, body weight, wind, and so on, their claim is far from the truth.

More like 40 - 60 miles is a fairer claim, but still superb.

This range is what makes the Giant Twist electric bicycle range stand out from the crowd.

However, the rest of the bike is not that far beyond lower priced electric bicycles in terms of quality. Yet, these new Twists are significantly more expensive.

Variety of Twist Electric Bicycles

twist womens electric bicycles There are two models of the Twist Freedom DX (men and women) $2250,

Two of the Twist Freedom (men and women) $1850,

And two of the Twist Express (men and women) $1625.

The only difference between the men and women models is the frame.

The Twist electric bicycles offer pedal assistance rather that the usual throttle control. Basically this is a pedelec rather than an e-bike.

Find the pedelec/e-bike explanation on this page.

One good thing about the design is the cover over the chain. This stops you having to worry about any trousers getting dirty of torn.

Twist Electric Bicycle Conclusion

So have Giant cracked it with the Twist series?

A simple answer is yes, but if you are considering buying it's never that simple, is it?

It is clear that Giant are after the huge profits they are use to with their regular bicycles. However, by hiking the price of the Twists up dramatically, it seems greed has won their hearts and not the desire for satisfied customers.

If they want a big part of the electric bicycle market, which they probably do, they will have to review their motives and the market once again. But they won't have to look far becuase the answer is simple: electric bicycle customers want value for money, and not to be ripped off because the bike is made by Giant.

Twist Electric Bike Specs

The most expensive Twist Freedom DX offers 2 lithium-ion batteries for that great range, a Shimano Nexus 7-speed rear hub for decent hill climbing abilities.

A choice of frame size; for men a regular is 17.5", and a large at 21". A womens is either a regular or a small at 15". These sizes are the same for all the Giant Twist electric bicycles.

The frame is aluminium, with most other parts as alloy making the bicycle lightweight.

The Twist Freedom and the Twist Freedom DX are similar, but the main difference of the Freedom is that it offers one lithium-ion battery, rather than the DX's two.

The quality of the DX is obviously a bit better. An example would be the seatpost offering suspension in the DX and not in the Freedom.

The cheapest Twist Express offers the one lithium-ion battery and is less quality than the Freedoms. The ride is also not as comfortable as the Freedom bikes, while the hub motors is also lower quality.

Despite these quality differences, the Express is still a resonable traveller and quite an enjoyable bike. So, if you're considering a Giant electric bicycle but don't want to pay the over the top prices, the Giant Express may be the better option.
