Urban Mover Electric Bike 36X Review

The 36X Urban Mover electric bike is one of the newer electric bicycles available from UM. It's also the best value UM on sale that we are happy to advise at $1397 / £949.

The UM 36X offers everything you need for your every day commute and is very reliable.

The manual we got for the Urban Mover electric bike was not hugely helpful, and for anyone with little experience with electric bicycles it could take a few hours to get everything ready to use.

However, once you get the 36X on the road it's a nippy little bike with good acceleration and hill climbing abilities. The Urban Mover electric bike is also light for an electric bicycle at 19.8kg (including battery), which only adds to its already enjoyable ride.

Urban Mover claim the bicycle will achieve 21 miles on a charge, we got a little under this at bang on 19 miles which is still good, and will be more than enough for most people.

The top speed is limited to 15 mph with its Shimano Tourney 6 speed derailleur gears, however you may be able to change this to increase the top speed to up to 20 mph.

What It Offers...

The Urban Mover electric bike offers Kendra puncture resistant tyres which are not the best of quality but do the job just fine. If you need quality tyres, it's often debated which are best but Continental tyres always seem to do the job.

The Tetro V-brakes at the front and rear appear to work well despite earlier complaints of them squeeking. It does seem to have been fixed, but time will tell.

A 26V 200W high torque brushless motor and a 26V 9Ah Li-ion battery is used. The battery comes with a good 1 year guarantee. Both worked flawlessly.

The older model of the 36X was without the variable pedal assistance control which was a bit annoying. However, the 36X has upgraded and is much more economical and fun to ride. After testing the older model a few years back, this along with the squeeky brakes were the only real negatives, along with Urban Movers poor customer service...

However, Urban Mover have improved on the bike at least and now offer a good electric bicycle at a good price. And at a price that's lower than many other electric bicycles that are not as good the 36X.

The 36X also offers a suspension seat post for extra comfort on the road which is great.

Overall, the newer 36X Urban Mover electric bicycle offers all you need and at a good price ($1397 / £949) for what it offers.

A certain contender for the every day commute.
