Wisper Electric Bike ReviewIf you're interested in a Wisper electric bike you should take interest in only the 905 series, they are by far the best value for money electric bikes on offer from Wisper.
Recently Wisper have improved their problem batteries which has resulted in a price increase, however, the Wisper 905 electric bikes are still selling well. So what makes the Wisper 905 electric bicycles good value for money? Well Wisper seem to have come a long way from being cheap imports from China, and are now happy to boast their new attention to detail, and who wouldn't be? On the handlebars there is two buttons giving you the choice of high level of power assistance (high mode) or a low level of power assistance (low mode). When you set the level to high mode the power assistance is at 80% which can be increased to 100% by using the throttle. Low mode delivers 40% of the power and is safer to use in heavy traffic which is a good idea. The throttle and Shimano Alvio derailleur with 7 speed Shimano mega range (905se Sport) work well which is again good in heavy traffic as it gives you that quick burst if you're at lights or in a tight situation on the road. The 905 uses Shimano Tournay premium 6 speed gears. Another well thought out feature on the Wisper electric bike is the on/off button on the handlebar. An annoying feature with a number of electric bikes around the price range of the 905s is the on/off key being placed out of reach when you're riding. Not only is it annoying for the switch/key to be out of reach but it can also become a safety issue if those of you superhereos out there decide to attemp turning it on/off when on the road. It is clear Wisper have thought through the design of the updated bikes. This is again noticable when you get a puncture, as with a number of other electric bikes it can be quite a hastle to release the rear wheel, but with the Wispers' it is simple and thought through. To make this easy they have placed a semi conical guard that fits under the controller box. Under the guard you will find an electrical connector enabling simple and effortless disconnection of the back wheel from the controller. The conical design also helps draw air through the controller housing keeping the controller cool and dry as well as adding extra protection to the cable system. The Wisper electric bike 905 se version uses a super high power 37V 14A battery which can achieve a distance of 56 to 75 miles on a charge! The least distance of a 905 is the basic version the 905eco. It uses a 37V 8A battery that therefore has a 296Wh capacity and can theoretically achieve 29 miles on a charge, which is still pretty damn good. 29 miles is one of the best ranges on a charge for its price range. You can however use the more powerful battery on the 905eco if you want to spend that bit more money on a bit more range (27 miles to be exact). The 37V 8A battery is the cheapest replacement at £316, while the 37V 14A battery will cost you £514. Overall the 905s offer a very good range on a charge, and are fun to cycle with their light frames. The weight of the 905 with the smaller battery, the 37V 8A one, is 20.4kg, wheras with the 37V 14A battery, the weight of the Wisper is 21.6kg. If you're interested in more details, here they are. The motor on the 905 series is a 250W high efficiency brushless 36V (A range of 200, 350 and 500W motors are available for export orders only). Most of the material used is alloy, the hand built frame is, as is the APSE Alloy calliper Front TECTRO IOX vented disc brakes (905se Sport). The Wisper electric bike 905eco uses alloy calliper back and front brakes. The 905se Sport has Magnesium RST suspension forks with lock out and adjustment, plus a kick shock saddle post suspension. The 905eco has no suspension, however this is favoured by many, but it's not what Wisper don't add that can be a little disappointing, but more what they do. The LED lights are poor, the saddle was changed, and the bell isn't so good. But aside from these minor concerns, there is nothing that really stands out as a major concern, which has to be good.
Wisper Electric Bike Review Overview Good attention to detail, very good range on a charge, light and fun to cycle. Extras are not so good (LED lights, bell), but if these are the only complaints it cannot be that bad, eh? Overall the Wisper 905s are good value but have become significantly more expensive than in previous years.
